The EU has made its move: In an extraordinary meeting on 13 May 2026, the responsible section on “Toxicological Safety of the Food Chain” of the Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed (SCoPAFF) voted positively on the draft measures concerning mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOH) in food. After years of debate, it is now settled: the new binding rules are coming – and they will apply from January 2027. The only remaining uncertainty is the exact date of formal publication in the Official Journal of the EU.
